1.  Recognise appropriate books for a

     child.

 

1.1   Give an example of a child’s interest

1.2   Identify an appropriate book for that interest

1.3   Give an example of a book for a specific age e.g. picture book, action

        book

 

2.  Animate the main characters in a

     book.

 

2.1   Make a representation of a character in the book e.g. making knitted or

       sewn items, card, plasticine

2.2   Make a ‘game’ using the representation e.g. counting squares, acting out

        a story

 

3.  Recognise ways to develop a

     child’s hand-eye co-ordination.

 

3.1   Make a child centred activity using ideas from the book, e.g. puzzles,

        cutting and pasting, in order to develop the child’s hand-eye

       co-ordination

 

4.  Recognise ways to develop

     communication skills using books.

 

4.1   Give an example of open questions which could be used with a child and

        a book, e.g. describing pictures, making up stories

 

5.  Demonstrate an awareness of

     realistic expectations of a child.

 

5.1   Give an example of something that affects a child’s concentration e.g.

        tiredness, distraction

5.2   Give an example of an activity that increases a child’s concentration e.g.

       memory games, cookery
